William ‘Bill’ Brown OAM

Born – 13 July 1912, Toowoomba, Queensland

Died – 16 March 2008

Bill’s career as an Australian Cricketer and Captain can be seen at his wikipedia entry –here.

Bill came to South Brisbane in 1936 when he was lured back to the State of his birth after playing in New south Wales.

During his time at South Brisbane, he was generous enough to provide lectures and guidance to the young cricketers at the club which were very well attended.

Brown was a flight lieutenant with the Royal Australian Air Force, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines during the Second World War.

His career continued after the war and he played in the ‘invincible’ Australian Cricket Team.

Bill went on to serve for many years as a Queensland Selector and Australian Selector.

We honour William ‘Bill’ Brown each year with the ‘Greg Chappell-William Brown Medal‘ for the Best Two Day Player of the Year.
